STEMCELL Technologies is a privately held, global biotechnology company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The company develops and markets specialized cell culture media, cell separation products, instruments and other reagents for life sciences research. Founded by Allen Eaves in 1993, STEMCELL Technologies currently has more than 650 employees and distributes over 2,200 products. == History ==
To support the Terry Fox Laboratory, which he founded in 1981, Dr. Allen Eaves sold urinary erythropoietin and tissue culture reagents to researchers around the world. As production expanded, it became necessary to make the cell culture media in a dedicated clean room. The BC Cancer Foundation did not have the funding to build a clean room and thus encouraged Eaves to purchase the business from them. Eaves mortgaged his house and obtained a government loan, founding STEMCELL Technologies in 1993, with 8 employees.
